Role Of Korean Ginseng In Enhancing Cognitive Functioning!

Korean Ginseng

The numerous Korean Ginseng benefits are no longer hidden from the world. Due to its uncountable advantages, the root got used as a medicinal herb in ancient Asia. The history of Korean Ginseng getting used for health enhancement dates back over 2000 years in several countries of Asia. The medicinal herb has a diverse activity profile, including- antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and immune-stimulatory properties.

Several shreds of evidence from animal studies show that Korean Ginseng is effective in increasing cognitive performance. The beneficial effects of Panax Ginseng on the cognitive performance of animals led the researchers to explore the same for humans. Although not fully explored, some studies show that Korean Red Ginseng is effective for memory and learning impairments in humans.

Korean Ginseng has active components- ginsenosides, polysaccharides, peptides, polyacetylene alcohols, vitamins, minor elements, and enzymes. And Panax Ginseng is the only species that contains ginsenosides. These are the active compounds responsible for most of the activities of Ginseng. Based on the chemical structures of their saponins, ginsenosides get grouped into- the panaxadiol (Rb1, Rb2, Rb3, Rc, Rd, Rg3, Rh2, and Rs1), panaxatriol (Re, Rf, Rg1, Rg2, and Rh1), and oleanolic acid groups (Ro).

Rb1 and Rg1 modulate neurotransmission by stimulating and inhibiting effects on Central Nervous System. Both Rb1 and Rg1 are effective in improving cognitive functions. Numerous studies attest that Ginseng helps in improvising cognitive functioning in animals. But, when it comes to humans, the effects are not entirely researched. Hence, it is best if you consult a doctor for it.

Some studies also suggest that Ginseng may also help in improving memory function in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. It does not mean that Ginseng can treat Alzheimer’s. It means that along with the treatment, Korean Ginseng can help to improve memory function.
